Managing a work-from-home lifestyle is different for each person. You may or may not want to use these tips. Please find what works best for your lifestyle to avoid unnecessary stress.

1. Always end your workday with a TO-DO list for the next workday.

Create a To-Do List at the end of each day and review it at the top of each day. This will keep you focus on increasing your productivity by reducing the likelihood of wasting time.

2. Spend 80% of your day on high impact and high control activities that move your mission forward.

Employed Administrative Assistants and Virtual Assistants should spend 80% of their days using skills and knowledge to meet the needs of clients who are paying for results.

3. Spend 20% on administrative tasks related to running and operating an online business.

For freelance Virtual Assistants, use 1 to 2 hour per day or week to complete administrative tasks (e.g., invoicing, tracking leads, scheduling social media posts, blogging, etc.). Then, delegate the remainder of the administrative work to your administrative support person.

4. Designate times to check and respond to emails (Morning, Noon, or evening).

Adhering to a scheduled time to check emails and turning off the pop-up notifications (if possible) will reduce interruptions throughout the workday. NEVER REPLY TO EMAILS DURING NON-WORK HOURS (use out of office replies to training others to respect your personal time).

5. Regularly meet and / or check in with the supervisor/clientele.

To make sure your assignments are meeting specifications and deadlines and receive next assignments, regularly meet with your supervisor or clientele. Also, the meeting or check-in is a great time to ask any questions helpful for completing outstanding assignments, provide any updates or changes (in schedule or assignments).

6. Take Breaks.

Eat, take a nap, or complete mindless personal chores around the home during lunch breaks. Use out-of-office auto-reply to make sure clients or supervisors know you are unavailable and when you will return.
